Sarah Kirk Parcell is an artist from the Roanoke Valley whose work blends bold, expressive painting with immersive and sculptural elements. Growing up in a creative household, she was encouraged early on to explore the space between abstract ideas and visual representation.
Over the years, she has worked out of various studios and warehouse spaces, organizing exhibitions and collaborative art events. Eventually, she converted her garage into a dedicated studio—a quiet, meditative space where her work unfolds over time. While some work is finished in a timely manner, Many of her paintings develop over years, sitting unfinished until the right moment brings them back to the easel.
Known for her vibrant oil paintings, Parcell’s work is characterized by spontaneous brushstrokes and a layered emotional depth. Her paintings often explore nostalgia, vulnerability, and contradiction, weaving in whimsical and surreal elements.
Her practice is now expanding beyond painting into sculptural and experiential work, pushing beyond traditional mediums. Strawberry Milk is the debut of this new approach, incorporating immersive installations alongside her paintings.
Rooted in a fascination with identity, memory, and the absurdity of human experience, Parcell’s evolving body of work invites viewers into spaces that feel both deeply personal and strangely familiar—where poignancy and playfulness exist side by side.
